Faces of BMH: Ben Lilford

Ben Lilford

Job title: Recruitment & Student Liaison Coordinator, Second Step

1) What does your job involve?

My day-to-day role includes meeting teams within Bristol Mental Health to keep them up-to-date with workshops and courses Second Step's Recovery College has to offer. I also use these meetings as an opportunity to get advice from staff about how the college can better support people on their caseloads.

Another part of my role is running the Recovery Café sessions. At these sessions learners and BMH staff can stop by and find out more about what the college has to offer, take part in example exercises from the courses and enjoy a hot drink and cake.

2) What do you enjoy best about your role?

I enjoy getting round the city, seeing the various teams in the system and catching up with learners at each of our course venues.

3) Describe how you're feeling today in three words.

Sunshine = happiness.

4) What do you do to keep mentally healthy?

I take a good book to a quiet café with an available sofa.

5) What do you like best about Bristol?

All the good off the beaten track places you can go to spend a quiet, sunny afternoon.

6) What would you recommend that people try in the city?

Breakfast at The Bristolian, an afternoon in the sunshine in Brandon Hill Park and an evening meal at The Cauldron in St. Werburghs.
