Trans helpline set to launch
National Mind has commissioned two local
Minds; Bristol Mind and Taunton and west Somerset Mind, to provide
a helpline for people who identify as Trans+ to talk about their
feelings and experiences. Mindline Trans+ will be a safe,
non-judgemental place, designed specifically for those who identify
as trans, gender fluid, non-binary or exploring gender.
The line is being launched in recognition of the few services
available to the Trans+ population in the south-west of England.
The service starts on 10 February and will be open 8pm to midnight,
Monday and Friday evenings.
Mindline Trans+ will be confidential and offer mental health and
emotional support to callers but also signpost to other services,
community groups and online resources. Most evenings this service
will be provided by volunteers who identify as Trans+.
Both of the local Minds have over 20 years' experience in
running mental health helplines. All Mindline staff and
volunteers have received Trans Awareness Training from The
Diversity Trust and consider themselves Trans Allies, individuals
wanting to support, understand and not judge.
The line can be reached on 0300 330 5468. More information about
the new service is available on the Bristol Mind
