Faces of BMH: Claudia Jacob

 Claudia Jacob

Job title: Peer Worker, Community Rehabilitation Service

1) What does your job involve?

My role involves supporting individuals to work towards independent living. I support them to develop their living and social skills, reconnect with their identity through activities and hobbies and to get into volunteering or paid work, as well as working with them on any other recovery goals. As a Peer Worker I also use my lived experience to relate to the people I'm supporting.

2) What do you enjoy best about your role?

I enjoy connecting with people through a mutual understanding of mental health problems, supporting them to access hobbies and watching them develop. I love those break through moments when an individual achieves a major recovery goal. I enjoy helping to improve the service, too. I have also never worked with a better team!

3) Describe how you're feeling today in three words.

I'm on a night shift, so tired but happy and motivated.

4) What do you do to keep mentally healthy?

I run regularly. I'm hoping to do a half marathon to raise money for Second Step at some point.

5) What do you like best about Bristol?

It's arty vibe, Gloucester Road/Stokes Croft and the many events that are on throughout the year.

6) What would you recommend that people try in the city?

I recommend everybody goes to a place called Beese's Tea Gardens during the summer months. You can get the boat there to enjoy food and drinks in a quiet spot right on the river.
