Fabulous festival fun

Callington Road FestivalThank you to everyone who contributed to and enjoyed Callington Road Festival.

The celebration, which marked 10 years of Callington Road Hospital, was organised by the hospital's occupational therapy department and funded by Avon and Wiiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust's (AWP) Charitable Fund. Many others from across the hospital site contributed to organising the festival, too.

Over 150 people joined the celebrations. Most were service users from across the Callington Road site and other local AWP services, along with AWP staff, former service users and people from local partner organisations.

During the day there were art workshops, a high-energy Brazilian collective dance led by Angeles Fiallo, a swing dance class led by Graeme and Ann and face painting.

The chill-out area featured hand massages, a gong meditation and yoga. On the main stage the fabulous performances by Wednesday's Jazz, Drone Soul and Afro-beat band Mankala were interspersed with some brilliant open-mic sessions from service users and staff, accompanied by piano and guitar. The festival was rounded off with an electro/dub DJ set from a service user, to which people danced until the sun went down.

The pharmacy team ran a cakes and drinks stall in the information area, raising £100 for local children's charity the Jessie May Trust. The info area also featured Rethink Bristol, AWP's research and development department and the Callington Road library team.
