Faces of Bristol Mental Health: Becky Piggot

Becky Piggot

Job title: Crisis Worker in BMH's Crisis Team

1) What does your job involve?

We use a range of different interventions to provide emotional and practical support to people who are experiencing a mental health crisis. It also involves "sign posting" and linking people up with other organisations who can help them too.

2) What do you enjoy best about your role?

I enjoy hearing people's life stories. I like listening to people sharing their feelings - it's a privilege to do that. It's quite an intimate role to be in, to develop trust with someone in order to support them better.

3) Describe how you are feeling today in three words

Mellow, communicative, organised!

4) What do you do to keep mentally healthy?

I talk to colleagues, my partner and my friends a lot. Sometimes I go to the gym. When I have the time I like to do artwork. I am a qualified art therapist so creativity is a part of my persona and I feel creativity is good for the soul.

5) What do you like best about Bristol?

I only moved to Bristol last August so I'm still discovering it. I think Bristol has a good vibe. The best thing is the people, they're really friendly. I love the Bristolian accent too.

6) What would you recommend that people try in the city?

Lots of things! I like strolling along Gloucester Road and poking about in the shops. I also enjoy some of the eateries around the Whiteladies Road area - Bravas on Cotham Hill in particular does lovely tapas and sangria!
