Bristol Wellbeing Therapies is launched

One of Bristol Mental Health's services is changing.

Bristol Wellbeing Therapies has taken over LIFT Psychology and as well as the new name, it has a new website, a renewed focus on improving the range and accessibility of group services, and a reduced waiting time to boot.

"We have already reduced the time people have to wait for an assessment to less than two weeks and our aim is to get this waiting time to less than one week," said Rick Cooper, manager of Bristol Wellbeing Therapies.

The service, which is part of Bristol Mental Health, is the gateway to a range of talking therapies for adults who have difficulties with anxiety and depression. Therapies are provided by organisations including Oasis Talk, Second Step, Missing Link, Nilaari, Wellspring and Womankind.

Some of the free, psycho-educational courses available include anger management, anxiety management, low mood and improving self-esteem, and all are based on  the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy model. After an initial assessment, an appropriate course is suggested depending on an individual's personal circumstances.

"We are going to be starting courses at new venues across the city so that members of harder-to-reach communities can still access this valuable service," Rick said. He explained that Bristol Wellbeing Therapies is now 'more integrated' into the Bristol Mental Health system, meaning that referral and access to services should be easier and more streamlined.

'Individuals are welcome to get in touch with us directly using the details on our website or by giving us a call. A GP will also be able to help you get in touch.'

If you or someone you know is interested in attending one of the courses offered by Bristol Wellbeing Therapies, or you would like some advice, contact them on 0117 982 3209 Monday - Thursday between 8am and 8pm and Friday between 8am and 5pm. Alternatively, visit their website, at https://iapt-bristol.awp.nhs.uk/.
